Ships from Waynesboro, Virginia.
Hand-made yellow shellac flake. A wax-containing flake produced by traditional cottage methods rather than industrial press — closer to the form classical finishing texts assume than any modern dewaxed grade can be.
Wax-containing means the natural lac wax has not been removed. The wax is part of the structure, not an impurity. Older finishers have always preferred wax-containing shellacs for their build and the warmth of the cured film. Hand-made flakes carry that quality with the additional character of cottage production — small batch, hand-broken, slightly variable in size and shape.
The yellow grade reads warm but not red — a gold tone that sits naturally on most hardwoods and complements aged finishes without darkening them.
Sourced direct from a fifth-generation refining family in India who has supplied this bench since 1990. Pure, uncut, genuine.
