Quebracho powdered tannin — a natural tannin extracted from the heartwood of the South American quebracho tree. It's used to age new wood, bringing fresh stock to the deep, oxidized tone of an antique before any finish goes on.

Brushed onto raw wood as a tea-strength solution and followed with an iron-acetate or potassium-dichromate wash, the tannin reacts to produce the dark patina that wood otherwise develops over decades. It's how restorers and reproduction makers get new wood to match the color of an original piece.

This isn't a finish — it's a wood preparation. The shellac, oil, or varnish that follows sits on aged-looking stock from the first coat.

It's hard to find, so we carry it.
