Dewaxed amber shellac flake. The classic warm mid-tone — orange-amber in solution, depth without the deep red of garnet. The grade most general finishing reaches for when shellac should add character without taking over.

Amber's warmth is the lac's own. Color in dewaxed flake is set by the base seedlac and how far it's lightened with activated carbon; amber keeps more of that natural tone instead of being carried all the way to pale. Decolorised with washing soda and activated carbon only — never chemically bleached.

Dewaxed flake is shellac with its natural wax separated out, nothing added to take its place. It dries hard and clear, dissolves without the cloudiness waxy grades leave in solution, and sits cleanly under and over other finishes, polyurethane included.

Amber is the working middle of the dewaxed range. Walnut, oak, and other hardwoods take it cleanly, and it's the grade most finishers default to when the project calls for shellac and the color decision is still open.
