Ships from Waynesboro, Virginia.
Bysakhi dark seedlac. A deep, naturally dark seedlac in its raw form — lac granules screened and washed, but not melted, stretched, or filtered into flake. The darkest color comes from the largest, dye-rich granules carrying through, the warmth you cannot add back once it has been refined away.
Seedlac is what the cottage producers start with before turning it into button or flake. Working it is part of the craft — you dissolve, filter, and prepare the cut yourself — and the reward is a shellac in its closest-to-source state, full-bodied and warm.
Bysakhi takes its name from the month of Baisakh, the spring harvest. Genuine Bysakhi has grown scarce, and we sell only the real crop — the family we buy from declines anything they can't verify as true Bysakhi. Reach for it when you want depth and a rich amber tone: building your own dark working lac, warming a finish, matching an aged piece. Pair with patience and a fine cloth filter.
Sourced direct from a fifth-generation refining family in India who has supplied this bench since 1990. Pure, uncut, genuine.
